Fred is a diesel engine that works on the Skarloey Railway. He does maintenance work with Rusty and usually pulls the Weedkiller Train.
Bio[]
In the 1980s, the Skarloey Railway bought two worn out Hunslet Diesels from the National Coal Board and using parts from both engines, constructed one good engine; Fred. He was put into service in 1989 as a secondary diesel (to Rusty) and is used exclusively for maintenance and engineering work.[1]
Once a year, Rusty and Fred have to pull a slow train that spreads weedkillers on the tracks.
Persona[]
Fred has lots of teething troubles and often falls ill leaving him unable to do work.
Livery[]
Fred is painted dark grey with red side rods. He has black and gold name and number plates.

- Fred is named after a fogman that saved Peter Sam and his passengers from crashing into a forest fire,
